SMS Terms

The short version. Briefly Shift Line texts are about shift callouts and coverage only, sent on behalf of the business you work for. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help.

These SMS Terms apply to everyone who sends or receives text messages through the Briefly Shift Line program, operated by Colton McKinney ("Briefly," "we," or "us"). Businesses that use the program are also bound by our Terms of Service.

1. Program description

Each participating business has its own Briefly Shift Line. It sends transactional text messages that help that business coordinate shift coverage with its team. Messages may include:

  • A welcome text when you are added, confirming you've joined.
  • A confirmation when a team member texts that they can't make a shift.
  • A request asking available team members whether they can cover an open shift.
  • Updates telling team members who is covering a shift.
  • Notices to the business owner when a shift is covered or needs their attention.
  • Replies to other messages sent to the line, such as a note that the line can only help with shift coverage.

We do not send marketing or promotional messages through the Briefly Shift Line. Replying to a coverage request is up to you.

2. How you join

  • Team members: you sign up at brieflyforbusiness.com/signup, usually from a link or QR code your employer shares, by entering your mobile number and checking the consent box. You can also sign a printable consent form instead. Your employer confirms you're on the team, and then you're added to their Briefly Shift Line. Signing up is voluntary and not a condition of employment. Your first message is a welcome text confirming you've joined, with HELP and STOP instructions.
  • Business owners: you give us your mobile number during setup to receive owner notices.

If you text a Briefly Shift Line without being on a business's team, we reply to say the number isn't registered, and don't text you otherwise.

3. Message frequency

Message frequency varies with shift activity. A team member typically receives a few messages for each callout they are part of. A business owner typically receives one message per callout.

4. Costs

Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan. Briefly does not charge team members for text messages.

5. How to opt out

Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts from that Briefly Shift Line. You can also reply UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, or STOPALL, or tell us in your own words, for example "please stop texting me." You will receive one message confirming that you've been unsubscribed, and no further messages after that. You can also email hello@brieflyforbusiness.com or ask your employer, and we will stop texting your number within 10 business days of getting the request, usually much sooner.

Because each Shift Line is a single number, opting out stops all texts from it, including requests to cover shifts. Opting out is your choice, and businesses using Briefly agree not to penalize anyone for it. To start receiving messages again, reply START (or UNSTOP). If that doesn't work, email us.

6. How to get help

Reply HELP to any message for help, or email us at hello@brieflyforbusiness.com. For questions about your schedule, contact your employer directly.

7. Carriers

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery of text messages depends on your mobile carrier and is not guaranteed.

8. Privacy

We use your phone number and messages only to run the Briefly Shift Line, as described in our Privacy Policy. The reason you give for a callout is never passed on to your coworkers or the owner.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties, excluding aggregators and providers of the text message services we use to deliver messages.

9. Changes

We may update these SMS Terms from time to time and will change the "Last updated" date above when we do. If we make a significant change to the program, we will let current subscribers know by text.
